Figures of Fortune needs you!
In order to provide the content for our readers, FOF needs advertisers to pay for or provide the many toys used in our photostories and product reviews.
We at FOF hope that the many manufacturers of these products would provide new products for review and use in these pages. However, in the event that is not accomplished, paid advertising will provide a "toy fund" from which new products can be purchased.
| Placement |
FOF ads range in price from $5.00 to $20.00, and remain on the website on a quarterly basis. Ad space is sold in quarter-page, half-page and banner formats.
When deciding on what type of ad space in FoF is right for your product or service, it is helpful to remember that FoF is organized into .htm "pages" in much the same manner as print pages in a traditional magazine. The pages do follow a a normal, linear succession, but are accessed by hyper-links that allow the reader to view pages through their Internet browser in whatever order they choose. As such, many pages might be overlooked or purposely skipped. Where to place ads is just as important as the content of the ad.
FoF 's content falls into one of two basic categories; photostories and articles.
Photostories look like traditional paper comic book pages; they have on average one to four panels (photos) that are intended to be read from upper left corner, to upper right, then lower left corner to lower left. Photostory pages are designed to fit on the reader's computer screen without having to scroll down more than one half a screen. In this manner, photostory pages could be printed off on standard 8.5 x11 inch paper.
Articles pages are filled with text and some illustrations, but are not confined to 8.5x11 inch standard print page format, so as to complete the article on the same .htm page, and could end up being several screens long.
Ads come in one of four different sizes:
Ads can be purchased by payment in U.S. currency or by "bartering" one sixth-scale products, or any product or service used by FOF. In the latter case, any one-sixth scale product used to secure advertising space will also be reviewed in FoF, and all pictures of the item in the review will be hyper-linked to the advertiser. Additionally, each bartered item will be used in one subsequent photo story, with each picture of the item also serving as a hyperlink to the advertiser.
FoF's Staff are available to create the Ads for prospective clients, or the client may supply their own banner or photograph.
Clients may also request to choose the placement of their ad in the upcoming issue before it is made available to the general public (however, only one issue at a time will be be made in advance of web-publication)
FoF is aimed at a specific target audience: collectors of one-sixth scale action figures. These include products made by Hasbro (G.I.Joes), 21st Century Toys (Ultimate Soldier), Dragon-Models, Blue Box Toys, Formative International (Soldiers of the World) and many others.
On January 6, 2001, FoF's test issue (#0) was announced on several message boards and newsgroups frequented by action figures collectors. On January 6th, 2001, the site had 622 visitors. On January 7th, 230-odd visitors. On January 8th, 167 visitors. All these visitors came to a site not fully finished, and featuring only a partial photo story and one article.
Originally, FoF was to be a Quarterly publication, with the goal of having readers check back as often as possible within those three months. The first problem we discovered was that the sheer volume of photographs readers could see simply could not be viewed in one comfortable sitting in front of the computer. Therefore, each Issue will feature segments of photostories, updated once a week, so that by the end of the quarter the main photostory is completed.
Our second problem was in the frequency of updates. As our staff and advertisers grow, updates will eventually reach one per week. Currently, one every other month is good.
